Thanksgiving Day 2012
Date: Thursday, November 22, 2012
Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in November. Historically, Thanksgiving had its roots in religious and cultural tradition. It has officially been an annual tradition since 1863, when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”. Thanksgiving services were routine in what was to become the Commonwealth of Virginia as early as 1607, with the first permanent settlement of Jamestown, Virginia holding a Thanksgiving in 1610. The modern Thanksgiving holiday traces its origins from a 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation by the Pilgrims. At Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home we hope to convey to our families, during the days leading up to Thanksgiving, the feeling of thankfulness for their trust in us to serve them, support them and guide them in a new direction, life has thrust upon them.
